Ryan Hamilton

Ryan (he/they) is an award-winning fat/queer critic, producer, and theatremaker based in Narrm (Melbourne).

Ryan is a fierce advocate & critic for the indie theatre sector, doing theatre criticism on social media, organising theatre excursions with No Drama Drama Club, and seeing 150+ shows a year as a theatre judge.

Ryan’s criticism gets at the personal through the political, asking ‘how can theatre be a force for good in the world, working through me as an audience member?’

His work has toured the country, and he’s won awards at Melbourne Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Fringe World Perth.

Thursday 17 September, 6:30-7:30PM

Arbiters or Arbitrary?

Letterboxers at film premiers, stan twitter influencing music charts, TikTok dictating theatre seats— everyone is a critic now. But the critics themselves have differing thoughts. Where does the future, or even the present of criticism stand? Join a panel of music, theatre and film critics to investigate the lay-of-the-critic land.
