The Emerging Writers’ Festival work, learn and play largely on the land of the Kulin nation, and pay our respects to their Elders, past and present.
EWF celebrates the history and creativity of the world’s oldest living culture.
The National Writers’ Conference is the place for emerging writers to develop their skills, hear from leaders in the field, and forge connections within the industry.
As the centrepiece event of the Emerging Writers’ Festival, the National Writers’ Conference is all about informing and inspiring writers of all genres and styles. Hear the best industry advice from our distinguished Ambassadors and dive into conversations about how to start a publication, the role of literary criticism and the art of the interview.
In partnership with Scienceworks, EWF presents an expansive evening under the stars. Audiences will be treated to a viewing of the fulldome feature film Starlight. Starlight features stunning fulldome visualisations of being inside a supernova explosion and drifting through a stellar nursery, a rich gaseous nebula that is collapsing into stars. Following the film, hear star-inspired original performances by emerging writers.
Farewell the festival for another year with a night of interactive readings. As some of our favourite writers share stories, you are invited to guess who is speaking the truth, and who is spinning a web of pure fiction. Will you uncover what is real, or will it all remain a mystery? Who’s to say? Afterwards, join us on the dancefloor as we celebrate the final festival night with a live DJ and our best moves.
You can claim back 25% of the cost of your tickets to any paid in-person events at #EWF22! Simply spend over $40 on tickets to the above events in one transaction to claim your rebate, with each individual able to claim back up to a total of $125 under the program.
This program will close once funds are exhausted, so act fast!
The Emerging Writers’ Festival is a not-for-profit organisation whose foundations are built on supporting emerging writers. We are a place where creativity and innovation are celebrated, where new talent is nurtured and where diverse voices from across Australia are represented.
This is the eighth year of the prestigious Richell Prize and once again entries are open to unpublished writers of adult fiction and adult narrative non-fiction. The winner will receive $10,000 in prize money, to be donated by Hachette Australia, and a year’s mentoring with one of Hachette Australia’s publishers.
