Who I Am: Putting Your Life to a Beat

There are clear links that a strong sense of one’s identity leads to improved health, well-being, resilience, and relationships. Likewise, there is a healing power in self-expression.

Acclaimed hip hop artist Kultar Ahluwalia’s work revolves around autobiographical storytelling. Allow him to guide you in fusing identity, self-expression and storytelling to the rhythm of a beat.

Whether you are a poet, an essayist, or a lyricist, this session will teach you how to translate the quiet thoughts on your page into a breathing, rhythmic performance that resonates on the stage and beyond.

Kultar Ahluwalia

Kultar Ahluwalia is a Southern Adelaide hip-hop artist of Punjabi and Irish descent. Inspired by revolutionary artists while navigating his identity, he has performed for two decades, recently creating works under his birth name.

Through the 2023 Nexus Arts Interplay Program, Kultar created “The Mixed-Race Tape” EP and stage show, touring it successfully at major platforms such as OzAsia, Darwin Festival and Riverside Theatres.

Kultar combines his arts, community engagement and health experience in his role at Nexus Arts and as an independent workshop facilitator for organisations such as City of Onkaparinga, ActNow Theatre and Spoken Word SA.
