Reimagining the Archives

The archives are rich places for understanding our history. But for many marginalised people, archival stories are only told through police reports, medical documents, and institutional records. These documents are all told from the perspectives of those in power. How can archival research be used to recover and reimagine the voices that dominant narratives have tried to silence? 

In this workshop, experiment with approaches that foreground gaps, silences, and bias, and consider how form can challenge those narratives. Through discussion and creative exercises, explore how to write with, around, and against the archive to create work that is thoughtful, self-aware, and open to multiple histories.
