EWF X Shop Bao Ngoc: Ocean Spells

At Shop Bao Ngọc, the kitchen is a research lab, archiving new and old ways to say I love you. The oceans and waterways have long been a vessel, holding fragments of our stories, restitching memories stretched thin across the waves, long after we’ve forgotten. Come join us for a cozy evening of fluid stories paired with food offerings inspired by the bodies of water that have blessed us.  

Small salty oceans of broth, steam rising as if a shoreline at dawn, what does the distance of water ask us to re-member? 

Some snacks will be offered during the event to accompany the storytelling. In this instance, unfortunately it won’t be possible to accommodate dietaries.

Mo Chan

Currently based in the most majestic Gimuy, Mo is a wannabe sea farer working on the Great Barrier Reef as a marine guide/outdoor educator/part time tattooist. Floundering as the fish they fiercely love, with deep admiration for their pelagic friends they hope to share their aquatic compassion with others to relish in the uniqueness and sacredness of our infinite marine and tropical ecosystems. Hoping to further orient their energy in marine and environmental conservation, acknowledging the interconnectedness of social justice movements, class solidarity and Indigenous sovereignty to create true reciprocal land and people sustainability.

Hiếu Phùng

Hiếu Phùng is a healing-centred facilitator and writer who loves to daydream of playful futures. He started Pandan Dreaming as a communal archive to re/member and embody ancestral practices of collective care and interconnectedness.

Dinithi De Alwis Samarawickrama

Dinithi is a queer, Sri Lankan artist, Gardner and herbalist in training. Their work is an exploration of sacred object and ritual with a focus on nurturing practices of devotion to the more than human world. Using plants as conduit, Dinithi’s work is an exploration of our inner landscapes and the embodied strength and wisdom contained within them.

Ngọc Trần

Ngọc Trần is a second generation Vietnamese chef cooking on Wurundjeri country. Inspired by the accumulated knowledge of her kin, cooking allows her to connect with both lineage and community. Currently, she is learning how to rest and set boundaries in an industry that often prioritises grind culture.
