Texting Images: BLINDSIDE & EWF Ekphrastic Workshop

Join poet and critic Lucy Van for a workshop on ekphrasis as part of Blindside and Emerging Writers’ Festival 2025 ‘Texting Images’ writing program. Ekphrasis is the process of representing and responding to an artwork in words. Guided by Van’s experience and expertise working with the form, participants are invited to learn about the literary tradition of ekphrasis – including its paradoxical nature, histories, examples, and workshop exercises.

‘Texting Images’ is a program that commissions four writers to each produce an ekphrastic response to works exhibited in local artist-run spaces throughout July/August – inviting reflection on a brief moment of exhibition history within the vast, and fast, local artist-run scene. This free workshop inaugurates the program and is open to all.
