After receiving an amazing 56 applications, EWF and State Library Victoria are thrilled to announce the 2019 Emerging Writers’ Fellowship recipient: Claire Albrecht!

Claire Albrecht is a poet based in Newcastle. She is writing her PhD in Poetry at the University of Newcastle and her current work investigates the connections between poetry/photography and sex/politics. Claire’s poems appear in Cordite Poetry Review, Overland Literary Journal, Plumwood Mountain, The Suburban Review and elsewhere.

Claire will spend her time at State Library Victoria working on her first full length manuscript ‘handshake’, which explores anxiety through the mediums of poetry and abstract photography. Claire plans to delve into the one-of-a-kind and short run artists’ books to find works that combine poetry and photography in the ways that will inform her work.

Claire will receive a $5,000 grant, a Golden Ticket to EWF and home-stay accommodation for the duration of the fellowship. She will be attending the Emerging Writers’ Festival from 19-29 June, and will spend approximately six weeks working from the State Library from July onwards.

Thank You
