Staff Spotlight: Diem Nguyen

We’re back with another staff spotlight! This time, we’re hanging out with Diem Nguyen. Diem (she/her) is currently the Associate Producer at EWF. She is a big fan of festivals, coin karaoke, and watching things with subtitles.

Hi Diem, how did you come to work at EWF?

Hello! I was one of the Creative Producers in 2019, and found the internship to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I met some amazing people, picked up some valuable skills, and learnt heaps about the sector.

I’m thrilled to be back and working on even more projects and events this time!

What do you do outside of EWF?

Outside of EWF, I’m still thinking about events and programming since I’m currently completing a Master of Arts and Cultural Management at the University of Melbourne. I recently joined the program team at Writers Victoria which means I have two desks in one building and a travelling mug.

What are you currently reading?

At the moment I am very time poor so I squeeze in reading whenever I can. This means I mainly read Substack newsletters on the train (Hunter Harris’s Hung Up and Terry Nguyen’s Gen Yeet are my favourites). I do have Dropbear by Evelyn Araluen on my desk right now and am keen to get stuck into it.

What are you most excited about for EWF2021?

The team has worked super hard on bringing a new program for everyone. I’m very proud of us and am excited to show everybody what we’ve been cooking up. I’m thrilled that we can go out and about again because what I missed most about festivals was the energy and vibe of it all. However, this might sound strange but I’m excited to cry in public again. Looking at the program, there will definitely be events that will move me and bring me to tears (both happy and sad!).

Thanks for chatting Diem!

The #EWF21 program will be unveiled in full on Tuesday 11 May. Be sure to join us at our program launch, either IRL or URL!
